Catching Z’s: Most inviting places to nap on MTSU’s campus

If you’ve attended college for a semester, you know exactly how tiring it can be. And if you haven’t, be forewarned. As the semester progresses, assignments tend to pile up, you’ll be running on fumes and caffeine, and you'll practically have to tape your eyelids open for class.

If you live on campus, the simplest solution is to go back to your dorm or apartment and take a quick nap between classes. For those that live off campus, this isn’t so easy. Some people live close but don’t have enough time to go home between classes, and some people live too far from campus to even think of doing such a thing.

If you’re a commuter, here are four spots with the perfect conditions to take a nap on campus.

car

Your Car

If you’re a commuter, it’s likely that you have a car to get to and from campus. If you’re exhausted and need a nap but can’t make it home fast enough to take one, go take a nap in your car. Plenty of people do it; it’s a nice way to take a nap in public but still be able to have a little bit of privacy.

Turn on some lo-fi music, and a little bit of heat or air depending on the season, and you’re good to go!

books

Library

If you have some studying to do, but need a little cat nap beforehand, the library is the place to go. There are many areas that you can nap in the building.

The second and third floor balconies have very comfortable chairs that hug your body as soon as you sit down which makes for a perfect place to catch a few Z’s before studying or doing homework.

If you can snag an empty study room, taking a nap under the table with the lights off is always an option as well. Just hope no one barges in and interrupts your beauty sleep.

Honors College lounge

If you’re looking to take a nap on a chilly fall day, the Honors College lounge is the place to go. It’s located on the second floor of the building and is equipped with what is said to be “super comfy” furniture.

There is also a fireplace to warm up and get as cozy as possible.

Student Union

The Student Union is a popular hangout and grub spot for many students, but if you go at the right time you just may be able to find the perfect spot for a power nap.

The second floor is furnished with soft chairs and comfortable couches. There is also a corner study room with a couch that would be perfect for napping if you can catch it when it’s empty.

The third floor is probably the quietest. Located on this floor are long couches with high backs that are very inviting for the tired college kid looking to take a little snooze.

These are just a few of the most comfy and cozy places that commuters use to catch up on sleep. There are definitely more places to be discovered!
